<br/><br/> ABSTRACT: This study aims to determine the association between obesity and the risk of developing acute kidney injury in patients who underwent intra-abdominal surgery at FEU-NRMF Medical Center from January 2014 - January 2016. Acute Kidney injury occurs in 1 - 55 of all hospitalizations, and surgery remains a leading cause of AKI in hospitalized patients, with incidence ranging from 18 - 47 %, best researched in the cardiac surgery setting, however, the incidence of AKI is underappreciated outside this setting. Patient with post-operative Aki has a higher in - hospital mortality than those who did not develop AKI. In a study done by Thakar, et.al, several independent risk factors contributes to AKI after gastric bypass surgery, including hyperlipidemia, higher BMI, and perioperative use of ACE inhibitors or ARB's.
