ABSTRACT: In line with the Administrative Order No. 2008-0021, the gradual phase-out of mercury in all Philippine health care facilities and institution, this study was done to evaluate the current status on the use of mercury containing devices and reagents at Far Eastern University - Dr. Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation in Fairview , Quezon City. A typical large hospital could easily have over one hundred pounds of mercury on-site, contained within hundreds of devices throughout the facility, unless it has taken specific steps to replace mercury-containing equipment. Health care workers may be exposed to mercury through spills from broken instruments or during sterilization of thermometers. Each department and their wards were assessed in this evaluation.
