ED - TI - Quality Assessment of Platelet Rich Plasma - Platelet Concentrates in Selected Tertiary Hospitals / AV - MT 2017 0014 PY - 2017/// CY - Fairview, Quezon City PB - School of Medical Technology, FEU-NRMF N1 - Includes appendices and bibliographical references; THMT N2 - Abstract: A crucial part of a blood bank acquiring maintenance of quality in a laboratory is through its tools and performance. One problem that remains in question with most of our country's quality control of blood banking facilities is the constancy and variability of laboratory results in one of their prepared blood components. This research tackles the uncertainty of the quality of blood banking preparations in our country and enumerate measures to improve blood banking operations. A survey was conducted for the external quality assessment of platelet-rich plasma-platelet concentrates (PRP-PC) among the hospital affiliates. This study utilized a descriptive type of study as a research design. The researchers investigated three sources of platelet rich plasma concentrates. In this study, the following platelet products were prepared: (I) Platelet Apheresis, and (II) Platelet Rich Plasma - Platelet concentrate. Samples were collected from October 2017 to November 2017. Afterwhich, the platelets were subjected to different tests using the following parameters: (a) Volume of platelet concentrate, (b) Swirling and (c) Platelet count. Moreover, the study was conducted at Far Eastern University - Nicanor Reyes Medical Center. Determining the status of quality assessment of these hospitals, that is whether they follow the criteria of the AABB standards or not, was the main goal of the study. Hence, Tertiary hospitals should be consistent in following the AABB standards. At the end of the research, researchers had gathered sufficient data shoeing that most of the platelet concentrates that were treated in each specific sources lacked proper maintenance in a specific parameter which is the platelet count per unit. Further improvement is recommended to the treatment of platelet concentrates. ER -
