TI - When you can't handle your own storm : : a case report of a 58 year-old male diagnosed with waldenstrom macroglobulinemia / AV - MED20160012 PY - 2016/// CY - Fairview, Quezon City PB - Department of Medicine, FEU-NRMF, N1 - Includes bibliographical references; RESDM N2 - ABSTRACT: This is a case of Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia in a 58-year-old male who presented with gum bleeding lasting for 10 days after tooth extraction, anemia, dizziness and blurring of vision. Bone Marrow Biopsy showed infiltration by the lymphoplasmacytic cell population and strongly expresses CD 19, CD 20 and CD 138. Serum electrophoresis showed monocloclonal peak concentration noted at the gamma region consistent with monoclonal gammapathy. Systemic chemotherapy is the mainstay of treatment for symptomatic WM. The goal of treatment is symptom relief and reducing the risk of organ damage. A single alkylating agent chlorambucil was used in our patient. According to the National Cancer Institute's database (based on people diagnosed between 2001 and 2010), the overall relative 5-year survival of people with WM is about 78%.
