Urine dipstick using leukocytes esterase and nitrite is a routinely used method to diagnose UTI. Furthermore, quantitative urine culture is considered to be the gold standard or confirmatory test for diagnosing UTI. This is a systematic review that aims to assess the diagnostic performance of the urine dipstick in detecting UTIs using leukocyte esterase and nitrite through the parameter's sensitivity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) in contrast with a quantitative urine culture by comparing journals. PRISMA was also employed for the inclusion and exclusion of journals. The results of this study suggest that when both leukocyte esterase and nitrite are employed simultaneously, the diagnostic performance of the urine dipstick improves. However, the use of the urine dipstick method is reliable in screening for UTI only in low-resource settings. Furthermore, findings of this review suggest that negative urine dipstick results can predict negative urine culture and that it can be used to rule out urinary tract infections. ER -
