A thorough handover is of great importance for improving the quality and safety in the healthcare setting. This study was done by determining the quality of nursing clinical handover between the nurses in the emergency department and inpatient ward in terms of: conduct of the handover, teamwork, handover quality, circumstances of the handover, and in determining the significant difference between the quality of the nursing clinical handover among different wards. This study aimed in the identification of the quality of handover in a tertiary hospital. Furthermore, the study used the comparative research design to examine the differences in the quality of nursing clinical handover of emergency room nurses in the different in-patient ward units. The result of the study showed that some wards have a better quality of handover due to varying factors that different in-patient wards had and circumstances such as lack of structured handover instrument and workload of the nurses in the emergency department; and due to the different perceptions of nurses in each ward with the quality of handover, the results yielded more insignificant than significant differences. This study benefits the quality of care by promoting a profound and efficient handover. Also, it will guarantee in meeting the continuity of care and needs of a patient in a timely manner, and will broaden the knowledge of the nurses about the quality of handover to help them focus on the areas of improvement.
