As nursing students continue to enhance their communication skills, this study conducted by the researchers aims to determine if there will be changes in the empathy scores of the third year nursing students before and after the Psychiatric Nursing related Learning Experience Virtual Duty according to the overall scores and three factor model: Perspective Taking, Compassionate Care, Standing in the Patient's shoes. The study employed the Jefferson Scale of Empathy to assess the empathy levels of third-year nursing students. The researchers used Simple Random Sampling as the sampling design and technique. Participants were third year nursing students at Far Eastern University - Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation (FEU-NRMF). Data were collected both prior to and on completion of the virtual duty in Psychiatric Nursing. The results showed that there was a slight increase in the mean empathy scores after the virtual duty, which has been interpreted as having a neutral empathy. Female respondents were also revealed to have a higher overall mean empathy score. Overall, the study revealed that there is no significant difference on the empathy scores before and after the virtual duty. This study provides awareness about empathy, which may be used to improve their compassion and empathic nursing care amidst the new mode of education due to the effects of the pandemic. The findings of this study could also be used in future research to examine further the empathy scores among the nursing students of FEU-NRMF who have undergone virtual duty. The findings suggest the need for further research in determining the effectiveness of virtual duty in improving the empathy of nursing students to supplement the research findings ER -
