ABSTRACT: This study examined the level of knowledge and attitudes versus practices (KAP) of third-year Medical Laboratory Science students at Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation regarding the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). With a sample of 134 students, a questionnaire was distributed for knowledge and attitudes; and pre-demonstration and post-demonstration were conducted for practice. A Pearson correlation was used to determine the level of knowledge and attitudes. Results showed no significant correlation between the knowledge and attitudes of the 3rd year MLS students to their competency in real life, suggesting that proficiency does not necessarily mean flawless execution. As an intervention, a short review and repetition of practice was conducted. Paired t-test with 95% confidence interval was run for analysis of pre-demonstration and post-demonstration and it revealed a significant increase in practice results. Key words: Attitude, Competency, Knowledge, Practice
