Abstract: C.A., 8 year old male presented with weakness of both lower extremities for 16 days with accompanying headache, blurring of vision, facial asymmetry, dysphagia and difficulty in phonation two days after onset of an acute upper respiratory tract infection. He already had chickenpox when he was 6 years old, no varicella immunization, and had no recent exposure to patients with varicella. On physical and neurological examination he had wide-based gait with trembling knees, with dysdiadochokinesia and dysmetria. (+) ROR, no papilledema, incomplete closure of right eye, shallow right naso-labial fold, and weak gag reflex, bilateral.
