<br/><br/> Abstract:  A cross-sectional analytic study was conducted to determine the relationship between family function and hypertension. A total of 266 families participated in the study.  The main respondents in the families that were primarily analyzed were the household heads.  Of the total household head respondents, 33.5% had hypertension and the rate of dysfunctional family as measured by the family APGAR was 41.4%.  Using multiple logistic regression analysis,  the odds of developing hypertension is about 2.5 times likely among dysfunctional families than among functional families, adjusting for the effects of the control variables like age, occupation, smoking, obesity, past medical history and family history of cardiovascular diseases.
