THE DELIVERY OF PATIENT CARE SERVICES BY STAFF NURSES IN A SELECTED TERTIARY MEDICAL CENTER IN THE NATIONAL CAPITAL REGION - QUEZON CITY FEU-NRMF MARCH 2007 - 93 PAGES

ABSTRACT: This study aims to determine the quality of delivery of patient care services rendered by staff nurses in a selected tertiary hospital in the National Capital Region. It intends to impart to the nursing team of FEU-NRMF Medical Center the strength, and weaknesses of the services they render for their patients. This study mainly focuses on the delivery of physical nursing care services by ward nurses. The dimensions of physical care are limited to four categories: Provision of Comfort and Safety, Patient Elimination Support, Patient Movement and Positioning, and Skin Integrity Promotion. All these categories are adapted on the bases of the criteria adopted in the study of Lapid (1993). This study used the descriptive method. It made use of structured questions to assess people`s belief, and self-reports of behavior. Since the researchers want to develop generalization from the population, it is important to have a representative sample - which, in this study are the 35 patients admitted to the selected wards of FEU-NRMF Medical Center. Findings revealed that nurses are completely true and accurate in the Patient Elimination Support dimension and weak on the Provision of Comfort and Safety dimension of physical nursing care.
