N2  - Abstract:  The study was carried out to detect the amino acid present in the saliva of smokers and non-smokers. Subjects were recruited from Brgy. Holy Spirit in Quezon City. A total of 32 samples were analyzed, 16 from smoker and 16 from non-smoker. The samples were subjected to Acid Hydrolysis. 11 amino acids were isolated and subjected to Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) namely Methionine, Phenyl Alanine, Serine, Tryptoophan, Tyrosine, Arginine, Alanine, Glutamine, Glycine, Histidine and Lysine. Among the amino acid identified the researchers found out that Alanine, Glycine and Glutamine are the amino acids commonly present in human saliva. In comparing the saliva of smokers and non-smoker, the researcher found out that Arginine, Histidine and Lysine are the amino acids found only in the saliva of non smokers subjects and not in that of the smoker's group
