TI - A Preliminary study on the effect of euphorbia hirta leaves decoction on diabetic-induced ICR mice / AV - M BIO 2012 0008 PY - 2012/// CY - Fairview, Quezon City PB - Department of Biochemistry, FEU-NRMF N1 - Includes appendices and bibliographical references; THDBN N2 - Abstract: The research was done to determine the potential hypoglycemic effect of Tawa-tawa (Euphorbia hirta L.) leaves on blood glucose levels of diabetic-induced ICR mice. Alloxan was used for the induction of diabetes with a dose of 160 kg -1 and was administered through intraperitoneal route. The administered Alloxan destroyed the pancreas of the mice. Themice were divided into 3 groups: the 1st group were administered with Acarbose, 2nd and 3rd groups were administered with 50% and 100% Formulation of Tawa-tawa leaf extract solution, respectively. During the experiment, Acarbose was used to inhibit the hydrolysis of glucose, thus preventing the increase in the blood glucose level of the mice (1st group). Various doses of Tawa-tawa leaf extract of 50% and 100% formulation were administered to diabetic ICR mice via oral route, particularly the 2nd and 3rd group respectively. The blood glucose level of the mice were measured for random blood sugar for the control, 12 hours after Alloxan induction, after Acarbose and Euphorbia hirta solution administration, and for the succeeding 1st, 2nd and 3rd hour after solution administration. A significant secrease in the blood glucose level of all the groups of mice was noted ER -
