Abstract: An action program on the proper management of diarrhea was conducted 45 out of 55 mothers with 0-5 years old children from Barangay 499 & 483 Maria Clara Railside, Sampaloc, Manila as subjects. This was done in order to increase the knowledge of mothers about the signs of dehydration, effects of over the counter drugs and proper nursing care to be provided to a diarrheic child. Knowledge were provided to mothers through a one-on-one discussion and film showing. A one-on-one interaction was favored in order to give mother enough time to ask questions. this type of method is also one way of reassuring that every mother listens and understands. We have chosen film showing as our final activity because it is a medium that appeals to their interest. Furthermore, it summarizes our education program into concrete practices in dealing with diarrhea. Pre-test and post-test were given in order to measure the gain in knowledge incurred by mothers. An increase of 24.4% in the knowledge of mothers is an indication that our objectives were satisfactorily met. More action programs on causes and maternal child care must react subjects belonging to all socio-economic classes with the use of wider of communication such as radio, television, newspapers, etc. Participant-observer technique was recommended to yield better results.
