TI - A Survey on the knowledge and attitudes of first year FEU-NRMF medical students regarding acquired immune deficiency syndrome. 1st semester, S.Y. 1995-1996 / AV - M CFM 1995 0016 PY - 1995/// CY - Manila PB - Department of Community and Family Medicine, FEU-NRMF N1 - Includes appendices and bibliographical references; THDCFM N2 - Abstract: A total of 317 First Year FEU-NRMF medical students were included in the study. A pre-test was conducted on 10 first year medical students of FEU-NRMF chosen at random and were excluded from the actual survey. A descriptive study was conducted on 307 First Year FEU-NRMF medical students to determine the existing level of knowledge and attitudes about AIDS, among them. Data was collected using a pre-tested self-administered questionnaire. Scores were given to determine which category of the level of knowledge and attitudes did the respondents belong to. Single item analysis was done, as well as proportion, mean values and standard deviations for the various categories of knowledge and attitudes. Results shows that there were gaps among the freshmen regarding the causative agent, modes of transmission, presenting signs and symptoms, prevention, fears of having the disease, initial reaction to AIDS, possible action to take and how to relate to patients with AIDS. The freshmen had a moderately high level of knowledge and a moderately unfavorable attitude. It is recommended that this status of knowledge and attitudes be improved further because of the identified gaps and weak areas, though the outcome of the survey is quite satisfactory ER -
