ABSTRACT: Hand washing is the most cost-effective way in preventing nosocomial infections. Despite an adequate relationship between the prevention and handwashing, compliance remains unsatisfactory. The apparent lack of compliance prompted the action group to launch an information campaign at FEU-Hospital. The study aims to improve and upgrade the handwashing practices and compliance among nurses in different department. Sixteen nurses were selected at four departments at FEU-Hospital - Dept. of Obstetrics, Surgery, Child Health and Family Medicine, and Internal Medicine. The group established a baseline for compliance by performing pre-test observations. The campaign itself consisted of posting reminders and distributing pamphlets. Post-test observations were then done to determine improvement in compliance in handwashing.The descriptive type of study - design was used to determine the handwashing compliance and practices of the nurses assigned. It also involved an information and education program by disseminating pamphlets and posters.Based on the results of data collected, the study established that there was indeed low compliance in handwashing among the nurses.
