KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE, AND PRACTICES ON THE NTP-DOTS OF PRIVATE FAMILY PHYSICIANS IN QUEZON CITY, YEAR 2006-2007 - QUEZON CITY FEU-NRMF FEBRUARY 2007 - 13 PAGES

ABSTRACT: The research is a cross-sectional study which was designed to determine the knowledge, attitude and practices on the National Tuberculosis Program - Directly Observe Treatment Short Course (NTP-DOTS) of private family physicians in Quezon City, year 2006-2007. Questionnaires were given to family physicians (FP) who were selected via stratified random sampling. Out of 51 respondents, 31% (n=16) of them have incorporated NTP-DOTS in their practice while 69% (n-35) were not incorporating NTP-DOTS in their practice. Results showed 20%, 49% & 31 % of the FP met the passing score of 75% in the knowledge, attitudes & practices category respectively. We can conclude that failure of DOTS program in the private sector could be due to lack of knowledge and unfamiliarity of the program by private physicians. Most of our respondents expect to gain access to free supply of anti-TB medication, as well as access to free clinic and continuing education. Majority are also willing to adopt the NTP-DOTS program if given the chance.
