EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCES, NEEDS AND PROBLEMS AND COPING STRATEGIES OF MOTHERS WITH CANCER STRICKEN CHILD

ABSTRACT:The intention of this study is to look into the lives of parents particularly the mothers belonging to the lower class whose children have been diagnosed with cancer. Specially, the research focuses on various emotional experiences, needs and problems, coping strategies of mothers with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia.This study includes a sample size of 40 subjects that are purposely selected from the hospitals. The subjects are the mothers with no specific age bracket. The Family belongs to the lower class bracket an at least has two children including the stricken child, who has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia and currently under treatment for about 3 months but not more than one year. Evaluation result are the following: 92.5% of the subjects responded that there were changes in any of the three aspects such as the personality, behavior and academic performance of their child while 7.5% did not. 5% has changed into marital separation, 47% depletion of resources, 12.5% loss of self-worth and 45 loss of time with family.
