This is to determine the hypoglycemic effect of banana fruit extract and to compare the hypoglycemic efficacy of banana fruit extract with that of Euglocon. The hyperglycemia was induced using 40% glucose, prepared by diluting 4 grams of gucose in a 10 ml distilled water. Postprandial blood glucose test was used to evaluate the hypoglycemic effect to the banana fruit extract. The evaluation was conducted by comparing the glucose plasma level of the rabbits orally administered with glucose, and fruit extract (100%), and finally glucose and Euglucon semiglibenclamide. The mean values between 100% extract and the negative control, the positive control vs 100% extract were compared using T-test. It was found out that 0, 30, 90, 120, minutes, there was no significant difference in the mean blood glucose levels of rabbits orally administered with glucose only vs glucose and banana extract, although a significant difference between the values obtained in the 3 treatments was observed at time 60. The 100% banana fruit extract has a potential for lowering blood glucose level but it`s duration of action is shorter compared to the hypoglycemic property of Euglocon. ER -
