TI - INVESTIGATION ON THE OF ANTI-BACTERIAL PROPERTY MORINGA OLEIFERA (MALUNGGAY) LEAVES ON THE LACERATED WOUNDS OF THE SWISS MICE INOCULATED WITH STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS AV - MPHAR20010007 PY - 2001/// CY - QUEZON CITY PB - FEU-NRMF N1 - farmakoloji N2 - ABSTRACT: This study was conducted to investigate on the anti-bacterial property of the crude extract of Moringa oleifera (Malunggay) leaves on the lacerated wound of Swiss mice inoculated with Staphylococcus aureus. A susceptibility testing against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC # 1143 was done prior to the incoculation of the animal with crude extract of Malunggay and ethyl alcohol as antibacterial agent. The Staphylococcus aureus, the infecting was inoculated on the lacerated wound of Swiss mice. A two day period was intended for the observation of pus which indicated infection. Moreover, culture of the pus was done to confirm the presence of pure Staphylococcus aureus. Wound of test group consisting of five (5) mice were treated with the crude extract. Treatment duration was three days and 5 drops of extract was applied everyday. While the control group were left untreated for 3 days. The crude extract was made from "Malunggay" leaves using ethyl alcohol as the extractor. The extract was tested for its bactericidal activity together with ethyl alcohol. Zone of inhibition is greater with the crude extract than with ethyl alcohol. The group of extract-treated mice expectedly decreasing number of colonies of Staphylococcus aureus compared with the group of untreated mice. Statistically, using the t-test, there was a significant decrease in the number of colonies in the extract-treated mice; and significant increase in the number of colonies in untreated mice. Therefore, "Malunggay" extract exhibited its bactericidal effect on Staphyloccus aureus inoculated in the Swiss mice. ER -
