A STUDY ON THE WEIGHT-REDUCING EFFECT OF GREEN COFFEE BEAN EXTRACTS OF COFFEA LIBERICA ON MALE WHITE MICE (MUS MUSCULUS) - QUEZON CITY FEU-NRMF 2007 - 22 PAGES

This research thesis determined the weight reducing effect of Green Coffee Bean Extract of Coffea liberica on male albino mice. Fifty experimental animals (Mus musculus), weighing 18-20 mg, were acclimatized for two weeks and divided into 3 groups: negative control, Experimental Group A treated with 0.2 ml and Experimental Group B treated with 0.4 ml GCBE. Their baseline were determined and the experimental groups were treated once a day for 2 weeks after final weights were measured. Comparing the relative reduction of the 3 groups, there was greatest weight reduction in Group B (treated with 0.4 ml GCBE), which was statistically significant, p> 0.05 (See tables 2 and 3). In addition, statistical analysis showed that there is no significant difference between the control and 0.2 ml GCBE treated groups, and between the two experimental groups. However, there is significant reduction in weights each group receiving 0.2 ml and 0.4 ml of the extract, and between the control and 0.4 ml GCBE treated groups. This suggests that Green Coffee Bean Extract is effective in reducing weight of male Mus musculus which can be further investigated as an altrnative to commercially available anti - obesity drugs.
