STUDY ON THE SERUM URIC ACID LOWERING EFFECTS OF MANGIFERA INDICA (MANGO) METHANOLIC EXOCARP EXTRACT AND ALLOPURINOL ON MALE SPRAGUE-DAWLEY RATS - QUEZON CITY FEU-NRMF 2013 - 26 PAGES

ABSTRACT: This is a comparative study on the activity of Methanolic Mango exocarp extract and Allopurinol in lowering the uric acid levels of the hyperuricemia-induced male Sprague-Dawley rats. The Sprague-Dawley rats were induced using potassium oxonate into a hyperuricemic state. Subsequently, Allopurinol was introduced to the positive control group and normal saline solution (NSS) to the negative control group. A non-parametric test was used in comparing the difference of uric acid level before and after injection of the solution to the subjects. The uric acid lowering activity of methnolic mango extract is greater than that of Allopurinol in hyperuricemia-induced Sprague-Dawley rats. However, the study did not cover the substance analysis, toxicity, and the therapeutic ranges of the test substances. Therefore, we recommend further studies on the onset and duration of serum uric acid lowering action of mango exocarp extract.
