Abstract: pH indicators are weak acids or bases that exist as natural or synthetic dyes. They indicate the pH concentration of a solution via color change. They come in liquid dyes or dye-infused paper strips that are added to various solutions to determine the pH values. This study is about Solanum melongena peel extract used as pH indicator. Nasunin, an anthocyanin a natural pH indicator. The study aims to find out whether the extract can produce color changes in solutions of different pH concentrations. The eggplant peels were boiled with distilled water in order to obtain the extract. The extract is then tested with hydrochlori acid adjusted to different pH concentrations. The test was repeated twice to determine the consistency of results. The test results were based on the end colors produced. Chi-square test was used to compute for the capability of the extract to produce color changes and to compare it with universal pH indicator. The test results showed that Solanum melongena peel extract can produce color changes and can differentiate very acidic and very basic solutions but cannot be used as alternative for the universal pH indicator.
