These studies used the most efficient culture media of red algae. These media are manufactured in commercial laboratories which is the reason why they are very complicated and expensive. The main objective of this study was to prepare a culture medium from caulerpa lentillifera in order to support the growth of non-fastidious bacteria such as escherichia coli, staphylococcus, non-typhoidal salmonella enteric and pseudomonas aeruginosa at a cheaper cost. Two forms of broth media were prepared from the caulerpa lentillifera: one prepared from extract and the other from powdered form. The control used in this study was tryptic soy broth medium which is the standard broth medium for the cultivation of different organism. In the broth medium prepared from pure extract, all sub cultured plates had growth up to the 4th quadrant indicating 100% of 4+ growth in all preparations for escherichia coli and pseudomonas aeruginosa. Only one of the three sub cultures from c. Lentillifera inoculated with staphylococcus aureus had growth up to the 4th quardrant of the plate giving a 33.33% 0f growth. In non-typhoidal salmonella enteric, 66.67% or 2 out of 3 tubes had 4+ growth in c. Lentillifera preparation. The identify of each organism used was confirmed using biochemical tests. Cost analysis showed that the broth media from c. Lentillifera is cost-effective compared to the commercially prepared media since it is at least 25% lower than the price of the commercially prepared media in tubes. The computed value for c. Lentillifera is po.36/tube while for the tryptic soy broth is po.81/tube. ER -
