520 _aAbstract: Antibiotics are used as a treatment for diseases caused by medically important bacteria. However, multiple-drug resistant strains have emerged because of the use and misuse of these antibiotics. Most infectious diseases are caused by bacteria through several mechanisms, one of which is by the production of virulence factors. Some virulence factors of disease causing bacteria are associated with bacterial quorum sensing such as biofilm formation, release of toxic chemicals, enzymes, and others that contribute to bacterial pathogenicity. Inhibition of this mechanism, also known as quorum quenching, may cause attenuation of the production of these bacterial virulence factors. This study focuses primarily on exploring a natural quorum sensing inhibition activity of the crude extract of yellow bell pepper (Capsicum annuum)against the biofilm formation and other quorum sensing associated virulence factors of Serratia marcescens. the extract was tested against Serratia marcescens then determined if it had inhibited this organism's quorum sensing activity. This was then assessed by performing colorimetric method which identified if the plant extract affected biofilm formation, prodigiosin production, and motility-virulence factors of Serratia marcescens that are linked to quorum sensing. Crude Ethanolic extract of Yellow Bell pepper was concluded to have Antimotility as well as Anti-prodigiosin property in certain quantities.
