520 _aABSTRACT: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are primarily treated by antibiotics but due to antimicrobial drug misuse and abuse, treatment of UTI is progressively failing. Due to developing global public health threat, in 2011 the World Health Organization (WHO) has urged all the governments internationally to take urgent action to address antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The Antimicrobial Stewardship Program (ASP) of DOH aims to promote rational and optimal antimicrobial therapy, to strengthen the knowledge, attitude, and practices on rational prescribing, dispensing, and use of antimicrobials, and to conduct research to analyze the progress and challenges on implementing the ASP in the Philippines. Due to the absence of local studies that examine the compliance of hospitals particularly, the physicians to the ASP mandated by the DOH, this study aims to fill the gap relating to the correlation between ASP and decrease in AMR.
