520 | _aAbstract: Saliva and Nasopharyngeal swabbing methods of collection are commonly used for the detection of COVID-19. Nasopharyngeal swabbing is deemed as a better method of specimen collection compared to the saliva collection method. However, it causes discomfort toward the patients as it is very invasive, causing the patient to cough or even bleed. Contrarily, the saliva collection method is uncomplicated and non-invasive, simply requiring the patient to spit into a sterile container. This study aims to study the sensitivity percentages and difference of both collection methods, further determining whether the saliva method would be a better alternative than the nasopharyngeal swab test. A systematic review will be utilized and previous studies and journals related to the topic will be collected and screened based on the criteria established in the study. With an initial search of 33 relevant journals with paired samples and falls within the criteria were included I the study. Overall, Saliva showed a high sensitivity percentage, with some that are almost the same as the nasopharyngeal swab. | ||
