520 | _aABSTRACT: A safe space is an environment where people are respected, secure and communicate their true selves, and where there is genuine care, support system, sensitivity, equality, and no judgment or discrimination of one's gender, age, race, social standing, and experiences. The learning environment is designed to be a safe and positive space to meet the needs of the learners. However, discrimination has been defined as one of the significant stressors that constitute a threat to the academic and non-academic performance of an individual. This study aimed to assess the knowledge and attitude of nursing students towards promoting a safe space and to determine the correlation between the two variables using a quantitative approach based on a descriptive, correlational design. With this, a research-made questionnaire was used to obtain the data to identify the mean of the knowledge and attitude of 274 nursing students toward promoting safe spaces and to determine if there is a correlation between the two variables. The results showed that the nursing students had "moderate" knowledge of the concepts of a safe space and "good attitude" towards promoting such in terms of physical and online space. Moreover, there was a "significant" correlation between knowledge and attitude. Congruent to this, the researchers recommended to include demographic data to determine which population is more knowledgeable, adding the relationship of behavior and performance with knowledge and attitude, conduct an in-person data gathering, widening the scope of respondents, and lastly, allow future researchers to use the validated, research-made questionnaire in developing the findings to further improve the study of promoting safe spaces. With this, this study could benefit nursing students, the university, nursing profession, and eventually, the future researchers. | ||
