520 _aAbstract: An integral part of providing health care is identifying the patient safety cultures of an insituation. The departments of General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Anesthesiology, ENT-HNS. Ophthalmology and Operating room were measured and compared based on 12 composites of patient safety culture. Communication openness, Feedback & communication about error, Frequency of events reported. Handoffs & transitions, Management support for patient safety, Nonpunitive response to error, Organizational learning-continuous improvement, Overall perceptions of patient safety, Staffing, supervisor/manager expectations & actions promoting safety, Teamworks across units, and Teamwork within units. A cross-sectional study of the patient safety culture of the surgical departments of a private teaching hospital was done using a 12-composite 42-item survey. Teamwork within units, followed by Organizational Learning-Continuous Improvement and Hospital Management Support for Patient Safety are the composites with the highest average percent positive response. While the composite with the lowest percent positive responses was Nonpunitive response to error. The database on the patient safety cultures of surgical departments showed similar strengths based on the composites of patient safety culture.
