520			_aAbstract: Elders often have multiple conditions that present with vague symptoms, making it difficult to determine the exact causes of pain and its appropriate treatment. That is why nurses play the vital role in understanding, assessing, caring and managing for elders with uncontrolled aging problems, especially in suppressing the pain problems caused by arthritis. Pain is one of the most concerned problems of the aging process that affects the entire system of an elderly. How pain is perceived and transmitted is still incompletely understood. According to Barbara Kozier, pain is a highly unpleasant and very personal sensation that cannot be shared with others. It can occupy all of a person's thinking, direct all activities and change a person's life. Pain is more than a symptom of a problem; it is highly prioritized in itself. It presents both physiologic and psychological dangers to health and recovery, and therefore viewed as an Emergency situation deserving attention and prompt treatment. Pain maybe determined as acute, chronic and cancerous. It may also be subjective and objective in nature. Pain may also be described in terms of its location, duration, intensity,precipitating factors and relief measures . Certain factors also contribute to affect the cause of pain such as age, gender, culture, fatigue, anxiety, and family and social support system. Arthritis is one of the major ailments that the elders usually suffer during the aging process. Since pain is considered as one of the major factors that intricate the cause of arthritis, the elders themselves demands to be treated from this anxious condition attacking within their body. As nurses play the major role of managing the problem of arthritis especially to elderly clients, they must obtain proper nursing care plan for an effective pain management. A nurse can neither feel nor see a client's pain. The difference in individual pain perception and reaction as well as the many causes of pain present the nurse with a complex situation when developing a plan to relieve pain and provide comfort. Therefore, effective pain management is an important aspect of nursing care plan. Nursing care is highly considered for pain management, most especially in dealing with an aging client with problems of arthritis.
