520 | _aAbstract: The study is entitled as "antimicrobial effect of calamansi pulp extract to respiratory bacterial pathogens." The researcher utilized calamansi pulps extract and tested it against Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes and Klebsiella pneumoniae. This was to dertermine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentrate (MIC) & Minimum Bactericidal Concentrate (MBC) of Calamansi Pulp Extract on the three said organism. Distilled water used to make calamansi pulp extract. This was then subjected to a serial two fold dilution using sterile distilled water from tube 1 to 10. A loop full of bacterial suspension was inoculated to each tube except the negative control. Positive and negative controls were also utilized to compare the results. After which, the suspension is made to stand at room temperature for 30 minutes to allow microbial contact with the extract. At the end of 30 minutes, a loop full from each tube is subcultured on trypticase soy broth to determine the bacteriostatic effect of calamansi extract against Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes and Klebsiella pneumoniae. This would also reveal the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). After that, those tubes with no growth as indicated by no visual turbidity or clear would be subcultured on BAP or MacConkey. This is to determine the bacterial effect of calamansi extract against Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptcoccus pyogenes and Klebsiella pneumoniae. This result would also suggest the Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). At the end of the study, it was proven that the Calamansi Pulp Extract exhibited bacteriostatic and bactericidal effect against Streptococcus pneumonia, Strepyococcus pyogenes and Klebsiella pneumonia. | ||
