520 _aAbstract: This study investigated the hypouricemic effect of Persea Americana Mill (avocado) leaf extract (PAE) fraction on serum uric acid levels of ICR mice. Crude PAE was partitioned into hexane and ethyl acetate extracts and then subjected to vacuum column (VLC) chromatography to isolate the components present. Thin layer chromatography (TLC) was employed to check for fraction purity. The ICR mice were induced using potassium oxonate into a hyperuricemic state. Subsequently, the PAE fractions and controls were administered and blood was tested for uric acid levels. Nearly all of the PAE fractions had a hypouricemic effect: namely, one ethyl acetate fraction (70%H: 30%E) and two hexane fractions (60%H: 40%E and 20%H: 80%E) exhibited an even greater reduction in serum uric acid levels than Allopurinol, the gold standard pharmaceutical used for treatment of hyperuricemia. The fraction components were identified as flavonoid derivatives using infrared (IR) spectroscopy. However, a more specific determination of the flavonoids fell outside of the flavonoids fell outside of the limitations of this study. The data made available here obliges further into avocado extract as an alternative treatment for hyperuricemia
