520 _aAbstract: The hypoglycemic activity of Stevia rebaudiana leaves, on D-glucose - induced hyperglycemic male Wistar albino rats were evaluated in this study. Methanol extract and decoction obtained from the leaves of this non-caloric sweetener was utilized. Results showed that the methanol extract was able to significantly reduce the blood glucose level of the test rats. It was also found out that its hypoglycemic activity was comparable to that of the standard oral drug treatment. Lastly, it was observed that the decrease in the blood glucose level of the test rats treated with Stevia leaf extract was greater than that of the leaf decoction.
