520 _aAbstract: Tuberculosis has been considered by the World Organization in 1993 to be a global emergency, with TB epidemic is getting worse. It continues to be a major problem throughout the world, With 16 M cases of TB reported in the early 1990s. Each year, 8 M new cases and 3 M deaths were due to the disease. Many strategies have been made to eradicate tuberculosis but the major problem in TB treatment program is patient default. Because of the non-compliance of most PTB patients, multidrug-resistant TB has emerged, making PTB more difficult to treat and control. The World Health Organization has introduced a TB control strategy known as Directly Observed Treatment Short-course (DOTS). Through direct supervision TB treatment, patient can be cured for six months. An intervention study regarding the implementation of DOTS was conducted among the 48 regular workers of the automotive plant in Del Monte, Quezon City. This project is carried out in four phases. First phase was health education, undertaken through a lecture forum and self administered pre and post test questionnaires given to all the subjects. Analysis of the results gave a significant 10% difference in the scores of respondents before and after conduct of health education regarding PTB. Sputum collection for three consecutive days was also done among the subjects. The stained sputum AFB smears were read by the Medical technologists and all subjects screened gave negative result. Implementation of DOTS by the group was not realized because no one among the 48 subjects were diagnosed to have PTB using sputum microscopy only.
