520 _aABSTRACT: Fifty healthy, randomized male albino rats each weighing 150 grams as subjects. They were grouped into five each consisting of 10 rats. All groups underwent measurement of the diameter of the right hind pawn using a Vernier caliper which served as baseline value. Group 1 was given NSS. Group 2, 3 and 4 received 50 percent of crude extract of Ananas comosus orally. And Group 5 served as the positive group which were given oral doses of Indomethacin at 4 mg/kg body weight. All groups were injected with 0.5 ml of 1% Carrageenan into the planar surface of right hind paw of the experimental animal and afterrwards the diameter of each paw was measured at 30 minute time intervals until 2 hours. Statistical findings using T-test showed that the percent inhibition of edema formation of Indomethacin is significantly greater than NSS; that the percent inhibition of edema formation is significantly greater for pineapple leaf extract than NSS. The percent inhibition of the pineapple leaf etract is not significantly greater than that of Indomethacin.
