520 _aABSTRACT: This study determined the effect of Morinda citrifolia fruit ethanol crude extract on the fasting blood sugar (FBS) level in alloxan-induced diabetic rat. Whole fruits of Morinda citrifolia were chopped, airdried, grinded, and subjected to extraction by percolation using 80% ethanol. The alcoholic extract was concentrated until syrupy by water bath. Five groups of two rats each were used to determine the approximate effective dose of the extract. Pre-treatment FBS leaves were initially determined. Afterwhich, each group received different increasing doses (250 mg, 500 mg, 750 mg, 1000 mg, and 1250 mg) of the fruit extract. Post-treatment FBS levels were then determined. The 500 mg dose made the significant change in the FBS level and was considered as the approximate effective dose. For the experiment proper, twelve rats were divided into 3 groups, namely groups A, B, and C. Rats in group A served as the control. Rats in groups B and C were diabetically-induced using alloxan. For a period of one week, daily FBS levels were determined from each rats. During which, each rats in group C received 500 mg of the fruit extract daily. The data gathered from the experiment were subjected to statistical analysis using ANOVA and T-test. The result showed that the Morinda citrifolia fruit ethanol crude extract made no significant change in the FBS levels in alloxan- induced diabetic rats.
