Abstract: Pneumonia is a common complication of ischemic stoke patients admitted in the hospital. It has been a significant cause of mortality. It increases length of hospital stay and expenses. Hence, scoring systems were developed to predict its incidence and be a guide for its prevention. The most studied scores were the ASDS2 and AIS-APS. In this study, these two scoring systems were compared to predict the incidence of pneumonia in patients admitted on FEU-NRMF Medical Center from January 2016 to December 2018. Two hundred patients were included in the study. A retrospective approach was done using chart review for data collection. Among these, 122 patients had pneumonia; 68 had no pneumonia. Statistical analysis used are under the Curve to determine the accuracy, sensitivity and specificity of the two scoring systems. The study showed low accuracy; no significant difference in specificity and sensitivity between ASDS2 and AIS-APS scores. It is therefore recommended that another scoring system be developed specific for Filipinos, with further external validation.
