Summary: ABSTRACT: Caffeine has been documented to increase metabolic rate, stimulate nervous system and slightly diuretic. Aspirin on the other hand, is an anti-inflammatory drug that somehow protects the body from some destructive processes. In our present study, a weight reductive drug, caffeine and an anti-inflammatory drug, aspirin were combined and assessed for its effectiveness on weight reduction on mice. 18.9 mg/kg of caffeine (Nescafe) and 3 mg/kg of Aspirin were administered to 20 overweight mice for 2 weeks. The weight of each mouse was determined as a baseline as well as after one week of acclimatization and then randomly grouped as test and control subjects. Only the control subjects were administered with the test sample while the control subjects were given equal amount of NSS. Results yielded a significant reduction of weight among test subjects after 2 weeks compared to the control subjects, signifying that combined caffeine and aspirin is effective in reducing weight among everweight mice.
