ABSTRACT: A 61 year old female was admitted to the hospital due to fever, headache, and changes in sensorium, stiff neck and seizure. Brain MRI showed signal abnormalities in the medial temporal lobe, highly suggestive of herpes encephalitis. CSF analysis showed pleocytosis with predominance of lymphocytes. IgG Antibody for HSV-1 was positive. Acyclovir therapy was started, and neurologic and encephalitic symptoms progressively improved. She was discharged on her 18th HD with improved neurologic status.
