Monica, District II, Novaliches, Quezon City. This economically depressed community has a total population of 105 families and diarrhea is one of their common health problem. Thus, these activities were conducted with the cooperation of the barangay officials and residents. The subjects of lecture-demonstration class were the parents and 70 of them participated. Prior to the lecture-drmonstration class, a pre-test was given to the parents to assess their knowledge regarding the common causes, signs, symptoms, prevention, management of diarrhea and the proper preparation of homemade and pre-packed oral rehydration solutions. After which, the parents were then subjected to health education intervention, including a lecture on diarrhea with the use of poster, flip charts, distribution of pamphlets and leaflets, and a demonstration on the proper preparation of oral rehydration solution. After the lecture-demonstration class, a post-test consisting of the same set of questions was given to the same geoup of parents for reassessment and evaluation. The data gathered from the pre-test and post-test were analyzed using the z-test of proportion. Based on the results obtained, there was a significant increase in the level of awareness regarding diarrhea and the proper preparation of oral rehydration solution by 95% through lecture-demonstration class conducted by the action group.
