THE EFFECTS OF VIRGIN COCONUT OIL ON THE LIPID PROFILE OF HYPERCHOLESTEROLEMIA INDUCED CATS (FELIX DOMESTICUS)

The study at hand intends to determine the effects of Virgin Coconut Oil on the lipid profile of eleven experimental cats induced with hypercholesterolemic diets. These eleven cats had three separate extractions: first after the acclimitization period where in they were fed with standard cat food, second after the induction of hypercholesterolemic diet and lastly after the administration of virgin coconut oil along with a hypercholesterolemic diet. Lipid profiles (Total cholesterol, TAG, VLDL, LDL, HDL) were taken to serve as baseline after an acclimitization period, induction of hypercholesterolemic diet, and administration of virgin coconut oil. Paired T - test was used, with a confidence level of 95% at a=0.05 to test the hypothesis. Two computations were made, between the results of Acclimitization period and induction period (tA), and between the results of induction period and experimentation period (tB) . There was a significant difference in the cholesterol and LDL levels when VCO was administered together with a high fat diet.
