A COMPARATIVE STUDY ON BROKEN HEART SYNDROME AND ACUTE MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION - QUEZON CITY FEU-NRMF APRIL 2016 - 70 PAGES

ABSTRACT: Broken heart syndrome and acute myocardial infarction have similar clinical features and the only method to accurately identify the condition of the patient relies of diagnostic methods. As both are life-threatening if treatment is delayed, the need to seek a faster diagnostic method is encouraged. This study shall examine and compare the epidemiology, etiology, pathogenesis, and treatment of both diseases to discern if there is a difference in their clinical features to determine a quicker method of accurately identifying the patient's condition besides diagnostic tools like electrocardiogram. This study has been conducted by collecting, evaluating, and analysing information from credible health articles, and online journals. It has been determined that the risk of experiencing broken syndrome increases with age. Then, it was later found that post menopausal women have a higher risk of experiencing broken heart syndrome than men. As acute myocardial infarction is due to nearly obstructed coronary arteries, the etiology of broken heart syndrome has been suggested to be due to excess stimulation of the sympathetic system. Selecting and initiating the appropriate therapy should be done after analyzing both clinical features of the patient and the results coming from conducted diagnostic procedures.
