Abstract: Yearly, the Philippines experiences bouts of dengue attacks. FEU-NRMF hospital is not exempted from accommodating dengue patients. In fact, our blood bank prepares a bigger stock of blood during dengue season (July -December), just to meet the increase in demand for blood during dengue season. To help ensure an adequate supply of blood we, Section 3A Action Group, organized a Mass Blood Donation Campaign with the goal of adding a minimum of fifteen (15) screened bags of blood to the current supply of FEU-NRMF blood bank. A One-Shot pre-experimental design of approach was done to achieve the goal. The strategies taken to attain the goal was to promote in advance blood donation, and a Mass Blood Donation activity. The outcome promotion was stated in terms of number of posters released. One week prior to Mass Blood Donation, we were able to invite 20 classes, distributed 450 fliers and released 10 posters. Indicators of outcome of education was measured based on the examination given and action taken by the audience was assessed based on the Steps to Behavioral Change (Piotroe, et. al., 1997) formulated by the Population Communication Service, namely: Knowledge index, Intention Index and Practice Index. Out of the 224 audiences 189 passed the examination, 165 volunteered to donate blood while only 65 qualified as donors. The computed knowledge, Intention and Practice Indeces were 84%, 74% and 29%, respectively. The Outcome of Mass Blood Donation Activity was 20 bags fully screened bags of blood directly added to the current blood supply of FEU-NRMF Blood Bank. |
