Abstract: Broth cultures are convenient for growing a large number of bacteria rapidly. Scientist use these Bacteria for other tests, combine them or inoculate them into other media for further experimentation. There are a lot of broth media available in the market today; however, the researches aimed to come up with an alternative broth media which can easily and readily be obtained in the country. Cocos nucifera L. (Coconut) abundantly grows in tropical countries such as Philippines. With further investigations of the properties that the cocos nucifera L. possess, the researchers thought that this could be an ideal broth for cultivating organisms. The research used an experimental, study to perceive the possibility of growth with the use of Coconut (Cocos nucifera L.) water. Making use of dilutions, the researchers used Cocos nucifera L. water with distilled water as a preservative to determine whether the broth ca support the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. A constant volume of 2ml of coconut water is diluted with distilled water into a ratio of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, and 1:5. Upon further analysis of the turbidity and growth of the microorganism, the experimental results were valid to conclude its positive results. Hence, the use of Cocos nucifera L. water as a potential substitute broth for growing microorganisms was concluded to be a cheaper and an accessible component for an alternative nutrient broth. |
