Abstract: This study sought to identify other non-invasive specimens aside from the current gold standard, nasopharyngeal swabs. As stated by Mathuria et al. (2020), early yet reliable and accurate diagnosis is very crucial in preventing the spread of virus, and providing medical help. However, recent studies about cases of false negatives have emerged with Real-Time Quantitative Reverse Transcription PCR testing using the gold standard specimens. A systematic review of articles from PubMed, Google Scholar, and BioMed Central was done in order to assess the possibility of using other non-invasive specimens for re-examinations performed on recovering COVID-19 patients. 19 screened and eligible studies were included in this systematic analysis. From the articles, fecal specimens, anal and rectal swab specimens, Dried Blood Spot samples, posterior oropharyngeal saliva samples, and throat wash samples were suggested to use as non-invasive specimen for re-examination of SARS-CoV-2. |
