Abstract: The paradigm shift from the traditional classes into virtual learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic has imposed a tremendous amount of stress anxiety and burnout that lead to negative consequences in the nutritional status and physical activity of medical students. The objective of this study is to determine the change in nutritional status and physical activity of FEU-NRMF medical students before and during COVID-19 pandemic. This cross-sectional study was conducted among 286 medical students of FEU-NRMF by simple random sampling. Data were collected through a self -administered questionnaire divided into four categories that included demographics, COVID-19 conditions, nutritional and eating habits, and physical activity. Data was analyzed using the R studio program. McNemar and Stuart-Maxwell Tests were employed to determine if the changes are statistically significant at 5% level of significance. The data showed that the medical students had five significant changes in their nutritional and physical attributes specifically on their BMI, number of full meals, number of in-between meals/snacks, special diet and exercise. Other attributes including counting of calorie intake, level of intensity of daily physical activity, and number of minutes spent for exercise, did not turn out significant. This study confirms that the COVID-129 pandemic has had an impact on the nutritional status and physical activity of FEU-NRMF medical students. |
