Abstract: The digitalized telescoping goniometer is an innovative tool to measure range of motions in the shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee wherein errors of measurements are diminished, such as determining the values through visual estimation and assuming landmark placement, which is essential to achieve accurate measurements. The aim of this study was to determine the inter-rater reliability of the digitalized telescoping goniometer in measuring active range of motion of selected Large Joints among Healthy Individuals. A total of 10 students from the school of Physical Therapy were chosen as participants for the pilot test was done to establish the reliability of the device in measuring AROM of shoulder, elbow, hip, and knee joints. A total of 25 healthy individuals within legal age from the Future Point 3 Condominium were conveniently chosen as the participants wherein their AROM of Shoulder, Elbow, Hip and Knee joints were assessed with both the digitalized telescoping goniometer and universal goniometer for one trial with the measurements of AAOS as the basis. ICC and LOA were used as the statistical tool in measuring the inter-rater reliability of the digitalized telescoping goniometer. The results showed that the Digitalized Telescoping Goniometer was statistically significant with acceptable ICC on seven range of motion; based on the 95% Confidence Interval of ICC, six on Shoulder joint namely: Right Shoulder Flexion, Left Shoulder Adduction, Right and Left Shoulder Internal Rotation, Right and Left Shoulder External Rotation. One on Knee joint namely: Right knee Extension. Poor ICC was recorded on seven ranges of motion namely: Left Shoulder Extension, Left Elbow Flexion, Left Hip Extension, Right Hip Adduction, Right Hip External Rotation and Right Knee Flexion, hence; we accept the null hypothesis on these motions based on the 95% Confidence Interval of ICC while the other remaining 18 months were interpreted as inconclusive for reliability hence; we accept the null on these motions based on the 95%Confidence Interval of ICC. The results indicated that the device was unreliable in measuring Range of Motion. With 25 motions showing poor or inconclusive reliability and only 7 motions showed statistically significant acceptable reliability across the two therapist. |
