Abstract: The COVID-19 outbreak has led to various changes around the world, specifically the educational services. To continue providing education to students, schools and universities had to shift to online distance learning as the new normal which, unfortunately, came with vision and musculoskeletal health concerns on students due to prolonged usage of electronic devices to aid online learning. The presented study aimed to determine the relationship on duration of electronic devices usage with vision and musculoskeletal problems among nursing students in an online learning at FEU-NRMF. A descriptive cross-sectional method was used to study the prevalence of vision and musculoskeletal problems with respect to the duration of exposure in electronic devices of Level II to Level IV nursing students of FEU-NRMF. Frequently used devices, daily duration of electronic gadget usage, vision and musculoskeletal related health concerns that can arise during online learning in terms of duration were analyzed. Binary logistic regression was used to determine the relationship of duration of electronic devices to vision and musculoskeletal problems of nursing students. Sample size was fifty-six (56). Majority of the students use laptops with a percentage of seventy-five (75.00%) to access online courses. The commonly reported visual complaints were redness of eyes, Blurring of vision, eyelid heaviness and frontal headaches upon exposure to electronic devices from three (3) hours and above. Likewise, the most commonly reported musculoskeletal complaints were neck pain, upper back pain and lower back pain upon exposure to electronic devices from three (3) hours and above. Furthermore, a significant relationship was found on the duration of electronic device usage with vision and musculoskeletal problems among nursing students in an online learning during pandemic. |
