Abstract: The family case report is about an 8-year-old female diagnosed with an uncontrolled Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus for four years as well as a Complicated Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). The discussion focuses on the nature of a poorly managed Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus and its potential impact on the overall condition of the index patient. It further explores the intestinal and external factors in the family which my have profoundly contributed to the present situation of the index patient as well as her other family members. The current predicament necessitates the need for an enrollment in the program which provides a comprehensive assessment of the index patient and her entire family. The enrollment would allow necessary interventions tailored to the needs of the index patient and ultimately, her family as a whole. In addition, the program allows for the analysis of the family in the context of their community in order to tap into potential external resources which could aid the family. Furthermore, the report also explores the limitations of the family to make the appropriate interventions for the index patient. This primarily includes a needed for a continuity of care with the family program of the institution in order to investigate unexplored areas within and outside the family structure. The paper concludes that a timely and appropriate intervention can only be possible with a solid interpersonal communication between the health professional team and the family. |
