Abstract: The aim of this research study is to determine the prevalence of owls, larks and indifferent chronotypes among 1st to 4th year Physical Therapy enrolled in FEU-NRMF and also serve as a platform for future researchers. The first phase of the study involves selecting subjects who would meet the inclusion criteria through a non-probability, convenience sampling. Subjects were recruited by going through classrooms, where a social-demographic questionnaire is distributive among 1st - 4th year physical therapy students. The second phase of the study deals with the subjects who met the inclusion criteria were given written informed consent regarding the confidentiality of being included in the study, subjects who were included who gave their written informed consent was then given MEQ-SA. The final phase involves evaluation and interpretation of the questionnaires answered. Participants would be contracted and results would be given via e-mail about their chronotypes. The 105 physical therapy students in the study are categorized by the following demographics: 32 (30.5%) age range of 16 - 18 year (minor), 73 (69.5%) age range of 19 - 21 years (adult), 48 (45.7%) male, 57 (54.3%) female, 7 (6.6%) first year level, 42 (40%) second year level, 30(28.6%) third year level and 25 (24.8%) fourth year level respectively. Most of the subjects included in the study was classified as intermediate type (80%), particularly among females aged 16 - 18 years, followed by evening type (11.43%) and morning type (8.57%). The researchers conclude that most of physical therapy students of FEU-NRMF, Manila, Philippines were indifferent. The study therefore conclude that the results of data can be generalized to other first to fourth year physical therapy students. Even though the indifferent was the predominant chronotype among the students, the first year level showed tendency towards being owl; the second year level, indifferent; the third year level, lark; and the fourth year level, owl. |
